The Dutch band, Rufusking, is coming in hot with their second single, "Poor Mister Lee". After a triumph of a debut release ("Vinegear Joe), the boys are at it again with another instant classic. The band, around since 2017, wrote this song as a team of creatives pushing a fictional restauranteur along in his day-to-day life in a blues-rock milieu. Think long car ride playlist or crowded karaoke bar; that is where "Poor Mister Lee", the infectious and fun new tune, is headed.
Congrats to Rufusking on another success and we look forward to hearing more from the artists!
1. What can you tell us about the new release?
Poor Mister Lee is our second single to be released. It is blues, rock, roots: we like to mix musical flavors and inspiration. We were planning to release more music when this year started, but now we are happy to have been able to release this one in 2020.
2. What was the process of creating the song?
About two years ago we had dinner at a local restaurant. There was a sign at the entrance warning 'food pirates': people running from the restaurant without paying the check. We imagined Blackbeard entering the restaurant... and the song about the fictional mister Lee, owner of the restaurant, was born.
3. What was the most surprising thing about the process?
The song came quickly and we have been playing it for over two years now. In September we started working in the studio with our new producer, Jan Stroomer, and he suggested a few small adjustments to the song. That really improved the song!
4. If you had to dedicate the song to someone, who would it be and why?
A lot of restaurant owners are struggling to keep their heads above the water right now. Looking at the theme of this song, it should be them.
5. Where does the new release fit into the timeline of your musical journey so far?
We released our very first single, Vinegar Joe, in September 2019. It took a while to release this new single, but we are really looking forward to share more music with the world in 2021!
6. What can fans expect next, musically or otherwise?
We have been writing new songs during lockdowns this year. We are really looking forward to record and release a few new songs next year and, whenever possible, to play live. So far we have played one livestream-gig as well. Also something we would like to do more during the next few months.
7. What do you do when you're not making music?
We all work, sleep, cook, eat and enjoy time with our families!
